We have seen the need in our community for one of life's daily necessities and are now moving to meet that need. The Vineyard Church has dev eloped a program called The Gathering: The Food Shelf and is now collecting various non-perishable food items and creating bags of groceries that are available to help to those in need.
Below is a
table of the non-perishable food items we are looking for to complete a bag of groceries. The table (updated each Tuesday - when the local grocery sale ads are released) is there to help stretch every dollar you spend. On the left side of the table is a list of items we are collecting. To the right of those items we will be posting any special sale pricing for those items according to each store listed above those items. You can also simply click on the store names to be directly linked to view each store's weekly ad on their respective website.*
Grocery bags are available at the church to be completed with one of each item listed below. All completed bags, or any separate item(s) you purchase, can be brought to The Vineyard Church and placed in the green Rubbermaid storage container by the front door during normal hours or dropped off on Sunday's during our regular service times. Completed bags can also be picked up during these times, at the church, in the Welcome Center area to give to others in need.
A completed bag of groceries will consist of the following:
- Canned Vegetables
- Canned or Dried Fruit or Applesauce
- Canned Beef Stew or Soup
- Potatoes, Pasta or Rice
- Canned or Bagged Beans
- Canned Tuna or Chicken
- Peanut Butter
- Jelly or Jam
- Crackers
- Cereal or Oatmeal
Special Notes:
- Please make sure cans have either pull tabs or easy-to-open containers.
- Please make sure food is instant, ready-to-eat or heat-n-serve options.
- If at all possible, please purchase the healthiest option available for food items listed.

The stores listed below are local grocery stores in the Des Moines, Iowa area that do not require a membership to purchase items. We will not include stores that require memberships (i.e. Sams Club or Costco) into our table. The Vineyard Church has no affiliation with any of these individual corporations or their policies.
